The New York State Society of Orthopedic Surgeons announces the beginning to the NYSSOS Grand Rounds Project/Case of the Month Program.

This program has been structured so that each participating institution will take a turn preparing an interesting and educational orthopedic case. The presenting institution will nominate one resident to prepare the case and lead the discussion. The preparing resident receives a $250 honorarium from the New York State Society of Orthopedic Surgeons. It is expected that the presenting institution’s faculty will be involved in a constructive discussion and educational session.

The format for this program is similar to that presented by the New England Journal of Medicine, where the case is first presented by the resident, followed by a short educational session provided by the resident and supplemented by the faculty. The presentation will conclude with an open discussion by the faculty and residents concerning the particular case. The program will occur bi-monthly for the first year. Presentations are digitally recorded.

NYSSOS is very excited and enthusiastic about this program. Elements of the program have been presented to the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and it is anticipated that this program will be modeled and demonstrated by other states.
